We launched our retail site two years ago, and after a year of out-of-control growth are ready to take it to the next level. Our team believes that you need to work hard and play hard. We believe that if the surf is good or the powder is fresh, that takes priority. We are lovers of the outdoors first and foremost, and that infiltrates every aspect of our business. Membership & Outreach Intern (Paid, Starts January 2019)
Are you a leader in your outdoor club or program? Do you love talking to other leaders about their clubs? If so, this position is for you. The Outreach Team at College Outside works to onboard new groups to College Outside. In the fall, they manage the 300+ annual renewals of all existing Outing Clubs and Programs. In the Spring, they manage the inflow of applications to College Outside and reach out to new programs who aren’t yet a part of the network. The onboarding process involves getting on the phone with the leadership of interested clubs, informing them of all of our online benefits and events, and setting them and their members up with accounts. After a group is set up you will be their contact for any College Outside questions and new member additions. Not only is this a great way to fine tune your professional communication skills, but it’s also a great way to build a network in the Outdoor Industry and with College Outside as a company. Perks include commission, staff level pro-deals, Outdoor Industry event access, and more. Social Media Intern (Paid, Starts Winter 2019)
Social Media is one of the most important tools we use to connect with and build the College Outside community. You will work with our CEO and Digital Marketing Manager to build and grow our digital community, through consistent posting, daily management, and creative strategy. The ideal candidate has a strong sense of humor, is fiercely independent, & is passionate about working with other outdoorsy student groups. You will in be responsible for creating original content on all platforms, launching and maintaining our Instagram influencer team, & reporting on all work. Staff Photographers (Unpaid, Starts Immediately)
Calling all adventure photographers! College Outside is hiring creative interns to join our contributor team. Photographers must be self-motivated, independent, and passionate about creating beautiful and high-quality images. Photographers will be required to submit at least 30 photographs a month to be used on the College Outside website, in emails, and on social media. Photo content is flexible with a focus on adventure and the outdoorsy college student. Photographers may periodically be assigned to shoot specific content. This is a remote position. Freelance Writers (Unpaid, Starts Immediately)
College Outside is looking for freelance writers to get featured on the publication. Share about your latest adventure and lessons you learned, a profile of a rad outdoorsperson, a how-to article, or a new outdoors start-up company: anything you think outdoorsy college students like yourself would love. Getting featured on the publication is a great resume and experience builder, and a way to get your club/business/story out there. Product Specialist Intern (Position Filled)
The Product Specialist Intern will work with our HQ team and brand partners to bring to life their brand and product stories. This position will dive deep into the inner workings of an online retail site and see what it takes to run College Outside. You will be responsible for picking out and adding the newest and greatest outdoor products, as well as optimizing the e-commerce shopping experience. You’ll work on creating and updating copy on all pages of our website. We are looking for a detail-oriented, gear-obsessed, all-star who is able to work at least 15 hours per week. This position can be remote or done from our office in Carpinteria, CA. Applications are due August 3rd.
Marketing Intern (Position Filled)
Calling all Marketing Majors! This position will work side by side with our Digital Marketing Manager and CEO. You will be providing support on digital ad campaigns, creating and refining marketing assets, and designing creative new ways for College Outside to communicate with our student users. Throughout the semester, you may have the opportunity to collaborate on campaigns by top outdoor companies including Black Diamond, Thule, Gregory, and more. We are looking for a driven, creative, and detail-oriented student, who has held a leadership role in an outdoor group on campus. Experience with Google Analytics, Mailchimp, and Photoshop a huge plus. This position requires 15 hours a week, either remotely or from our office in Carpinteria, CA. Applications are due August 3rd.
